Blood Bowl and Steam

Well, Blood Bowl (Games Workshop, Cyanide Studios and Focus Home Interactive) was “released” on Steam November 25th, 2009 in the US. Released being quoted since I am still getting an error when trying to launch it.

“This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time.”

The only thing that chaps me worse than not getting what I pay for is not getting what I pay for AND not getting any support either.

One would think that if Steam is going to release on a holiday (or the day before even), they’d ensure staff were present to address any problems. I don’t know if this is the case or not but the posts on the forum are slowly starting to build up and I’ve not seen any official response from Steam. The only thing I have seen is a response on the Cyanide (Blood Bowl) forums saying that it’s a Steam issue. Which makes sense.

Hopefully they get it sorted soon since a lot of folks stateside have a day or two off, the lucky few getting an extra long weekend.

Database Server Build

More for my records than anyone elses. Still someone may find some use for this information.

I started off by doing a standard network install of Debian Woody. After that I installed ssh and got to work.

Before doing anything else, I create a “poor man’s” disk mirror. This probably isn’t the best solution but it works for my needs. The first thing we need to do here is take a look at the current partition info:

The easiest way I have found to mirror the partition structure is using sfdisk.

venus:~# sfdisk -d /dev/hde | sfdisk /dev/hdg

sfdisk sends quite a bit of information to STDOUT, but the important data looks something like this:

Re-reading the partition table …

The reiserfs filesystem was used, so reiserfsprogs is needed:

venus:/# mkfs.reiserfs /dev/hdg2 (all the way through /dev/hdg8 from above)
Created a directory structure for mount points.
Mounted all the hdg filesystems.

Created a system mirroring script and tested it:
